The NSW Government has introduced a new law that allows people to clear vegetation surrounding their homes. The intent of the law to allow homes to be better prepared for bush fires in NSW.

Key points to the new 10/50 legislation are:

  • Trees within 10 metres of a home can be removed without seeking council approval; and
  • Within 50 metres of a home all underlying vegetation such as shrubs or brush can be removed without council approval.

It is important to point out that approve is still required to remove trees within 50 metres of the home.

NSW Rural Fire Service provides a tool that will identify if your property is in a 10/50 Vegetation Clearing Entitlement Area. Click here to access the 10/50 Vegetation Clearing Code of Practice Online Assessment Tool.
